Background
The IGWG's task force on Gender and HIV/AIDS, a jointly funded project of the USAID Office of Population and the Office of HIV/AIDS, was formed in Spring 2001 to assess how gender issues currently are being addressed within USAID programs and projects in HIV/AIDS/STIs. The task force includes a focus on gender and HIV issues that cross over both population and HIV/AIDS programs, especially integration of family planning (FP)/HIV services, dual protection, and youth. In its first phase, the task force on Gender and HIV/AIDS interviewed 58 key informants from among the USAID Global and Regional Bureaus, USAID missions, and Global Bureau Cooperating Agencies.
With the Barcelona Working Session, the task force launched the second phase of the assessment — a series of six regional and U.S. meetings designed to gather further input into these findings and to identify regional priorities. The results of the assessment and working meetings will help guide USAID Bureau for Global Health's work on gender and HIV/AIDS.
