A Training on How to Use the Film

(October 2011) Dean Peacock and Pascal Akamani led participants through a facilitator's guide, demonstrating how presenters—staffs from NGOs, government agencies, activists, and academics—can use the film to further understand why and how to engage men. Participants gained a better understanding of the nature and extent of domestic violence and sexual violence across Africa and its relationship to HIV/AIDS.

Pascal Akamani is a human rights activist with eight years of experience working in the field of social justice. He is currently an intern at Men's Resources International, after working in Ivory Coast as a gender-based violence capacity building officer with the International Rescue Committee (IRC). He started his work in exile after his own country, Burundi, was ravaged by civil war. Inspired by his own personal experience and having been a victim himself, he began volunteering in Tanzania refugee camps, working with perpetrators of violence and later with survivors of gender-based and sexual violence. He continued working in Kenya with faith-based organizations as a youth leader and as a GBV peer educator and assistant coordinator with EngenderHealth in South Africa. He has spoken at high level meetings and conferences and consulted for international and local organizations, such as the UNHCR, the Red Cross, and Sonke Gender Justice.
