Home > Events/Training > Refugee and Conflict Settings Refugee and Conflict Settings: How to Address Gender-Based Violence and RHJanuary, 2003 On Wednesday, January 29, 2003, the IGWG sponsored the presentation "Refugee and Conflict Settings: How to Address Gender-Based Violence and Reproductive Health," as a part of its Speaker Series. Beth Vann, from John Snow, Inc. (JSI), and Jeanne Ward, from the International Rescue Committee (IRC) both representatives of the Reproductive Health for Refugees Consortium (RHRC) presented information on GBV in conflict settings, along with current publications and tools available on the topic. Beth Vann specializes in projects that address violence against women in populations affected by armed conflict and is the author of the new publication Gender-Based Violence: Emerging Issues in Programs Serving Displaced Populations. Vann described her work with programs in the field. Jeanne Ward presented an overview of her efforts to design and implement population-based research studies on gender-based violence in conflict-affected settings. Ward also introduced the tools contained in a soon-to-be released manual for gender-based violence assessment, program design, and monitoring and evaluation. |
