2019 IGWG Plenary: Gender in a Changing World New Opportunities, New Challenges
May 29 @ 8:30 am - 12:30 pm
The global landscape is shifting every day, and those shifts have implications for gender equality and the work of gender champions. Evidence continues to point to the importance of cross-sectoral efforts when addressing gender equality and development. This year’s plenary highlighted new opportunities and strategies for advancing gender equality and health, and offered a space for the IGWG community to provide input on new and persistent challenges. As with past IGWG plenaries, 2019’s plenary also provided time for IGWG members to network with one another and for the IGWG team to gather ideas and suggestions to strengthen the community.
This year we introduced a new format for the plenary, focused on group discussions. Following short technical presentations that were selected in response to members’ proposals, presenters led small, focused discussions aimed at enabling interactive learning and engagement. The IGWG was particularly interested in showcasing gender and health work that intersected with other sectoral efforts (such as education, energy, governance, resilience, and humanitarian contexts).
