The IGWG organizes regular in-person and virtual events where members from around the world can learn from and connect with each other. These events may be thematic, such as a focus on recent research in the GBV field, or dedicated to capacity building, like how to use film for social and behavior change communication. Our annual IGWG Plenary creates space for members to meet in person and provide feedback on the network as a whole each year.

Presentations and recordings of IGWG events are available online so you can find past events you missed or want to revisit. The presentation materials are also available.

Faith-based Organizations and Gender-based Violence: What Is Their Role and What Are the Lessons We Can Learn?

View presentations from the event and resources here.

When: Monday, September 25, 2017, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Where: Population Reference Bureau (PRB), 1875 Connecticut Ave., NW, Suite 520, Washington, DC 20009

Please join us for a fascinating discussion on the role of faith-based organizations (FBOs) in preventing and responding to gender-based violence (GBV), including:

  • Promising practices and evidence-based interventions that FBOs utilize to prevent and/or respond to GBV;
  • Programmatic tools and resources FBOs have developed and used successfully to prevent and/or respond to GBV; and
  • Existing opportunities to scale up FBO-led interventions.

Panelists will explore these questions as well as data and reflections from two large-scale faith-based programs:

  • Jean Duff of the Joint Learning Initiative on Faith and Local Communities, Setting the Stage;
  • Prabu Deepan of Tearfund, “Transforming Masculinities: A Faith-based Approach to GBV Prevention”;
  • Mary Linehan of IMA World Health, “Ushindi: Providing Services to Survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in the DRC: Addressing More than Physical Trauma”;
  • Lynn Lawry of Overseas Strategic Consulting, “An Impact and Baseline Survey of Ushindi.”

Join us for breakfast and a chance to meet colleagues beginning at 8:30 a.m. The program will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. Space is limited, so RSVP by Wednesday, September 20 to Colin Vaida, cvaida@prb.org. If you are located outside of DC please register here to follow along on-line.
